Surveying & Cadaster

Major: Surveying & Cadaster

Program Overview: A practical, field-focused program training students in land surveying, geospatial data collection, and cadaster management for construction, urban planning, and land administration. Combines traditional surveying techniques with modern GIS, drone technology, and digital mapping tools to meet Turkey’s growing infrastructure and real estate needs.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Master land surveying techniques (theodolite, total station, GNSS).
  • Learn cadaster systems and land registration under Turkish laws.
  • Develop skills in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing.
  • Gain expertise in drone surveying and 3D mapping.
  • Understand urban planning, zoning regulations, and property law.
  • Apply digital cadaster tools and BIM (Building Information Modeling).
  • Conduct topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layout.

Core Courses:

  1. Fundamentals of Surveying
  2. Cadaster and Land Registration
  3. GIS and Geospatial Data Analysis
  4. Drone Surveying and Photogrammetry
  5. Urban Planning and Zoning Laws
  6. Construction Surveying
  7. Digital Mapping and BIM
  8. Legal Aspects of Land Surveying (Turkish Cadaster Law)
  9. Remote Sensing and Satellite Imaging
  10. Practicum in Surveying & Cadaster
  11. Capstone Project (e.g., urban development survey or digital cadaster map)

Assessment Methods:

  • Field surveying projects
  • GIS mapping assignments
  • Cadaster data analysis
  • Drone-based 3D modeling
  • Legal case studies on land disputes
  • Capstone project presentations

Tools & Resources:

  • Hardware: Total stations, GNSS receivers, drones, LiDAR scanners
  • Software: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, QGIS, Pix4D, Revit
  • Books:
    • Elementary Surveying by Charles D. Ghilani
    • GIS Fundamentals by Paul Bolstad
    • Turkish Cadaster Law and Practices (Local textbooks)

Prerequisites: Basic math and geometry skills. Interest in fieldwork and geospatial technology.

Program Duration: 2 years (associate) or 4 years (bachelor’s), including fieldwork and internships.

Certifications:

  • Licensed Surveyor (Harita Mühendisi) – Turkey
  • GIS Professional Certification (GISP)
  • Drone Pilot License (STK – Sivil Havacılık Genel Müdürlüğü)

Career Paths:

  • Land Surveyor (construction, infrastructure projects)
  • Cadaster Specialist (land registration, government agencies)
  • GIS Analyst (urban planning, environmental agencies)
  • Drone Surveying Technician (aerial mapping, 3D modeling)
  • Construction Layout Surveyor (building sites, road projects)
  • Real Estate and Zoning Consultant

Why This Major? Turkey’s rapid urbanization and infrastructure projects (e.g., Kanal Istanbul, smart cities) create high demand for surveying professionals. This program provides hands-on training with modern tools (drones, GIS, BIM) and prepares graduates for stable, well-paying careers in construction, government, and real estate. With strong industry connections and certification prep, students gain a competitive edge in the job market. Fieldwork-focused curriculum ensures real-world readiness.
